Houston Criminal Attorney
Juvenile Crimes
The state of Texas considers a juvenile to be a person at least 10 years old and under the age of 17; or someone between the ages of 17 and 18 who allegedly participated in delinquent activity before turning 17 that has displayed a need for supervision.
Criminal cases involving juveniles in Houston are dealt with in either Juvenile District or County courts. Although criminal in nature, these cases are handled civilly. The courts will establish whether the child participated in delinquent conduct rather than reach a “guilty” verdict. Juveniles are released from county or state custody based on the circumstances in their case rather than on bond or bail. The ‘sanction level guidelines’ will decide the punishment the juvenile will face.
Because of the differences between juvenile and adult criminal litigation, only attorneys who are experienced with all aspects of juvenile law should be considered to handle your case. Tad Nelson and his legal team have been involved in hundreds of juvenile cases and know how the courts prosecute these cases. Tad’s time as an assistant district attorney has given him experience on both sides of the law, and he will use this knowledge to defend your dependant or child in court.
